Tying CommuniTIES through Professionalism
Professionalism is essential for young Black men in Chicagoland to navigate and succeed in various professional environments. This pillar involves teaching essential skills such as effective communication, networking, professional attire, and cultural competency. It also addresses systemic barriers and biases they may encounter in the workplace.
Year 1
Introduce TTF Scholars to basic professional skills such as communication, attire, teamwork, and problem-solving through interactive games and group activities.
Showcase various careers and professions through guest speakers, field trips, and hands-on experiences to broaden TTF Scholars' horizons and inspire future aspirations.
Year 2
Introduce TTF Scholars to the concept of professionalism in various contexts, including school, extracurricular activities, and future career pathways.
Facilitate activities focused on developing professionalism skills such as public speaking, time management, attire, organization, and interpersonal communication in both academic and social settings.
Year 3
Prepare mentees for the transition to middle school or higher education by offering workshops on study skills, time management, attire, and goal-setting strategies.
Facilitate mock interviews, resume-building workshops, and career exploration activities to help mentees develop confidence and readiness for future academic and professional opportunities.
